Hiking is often thought of as a sport of rugged individualism but in fact, it's a deeply social endeavor. Building trails, making them come alive, and keeping hikers safe takes a village, and hiking communities—including the WCT community—almost always take root with group hikes. On this page, you'll find a few ideas for making your next Walking City Trail ramble a collective adventure.
ORGANIZE A TRAIL MEETUP

Since the maps and directions for the Walking City Trail are free and available on this website 24/7, you can use them to organize your own group hike on any segment(s) of the trail. Whether you're working with students or campers interested in Boston's urban green spaces, getting to know your coworkers or neighbors, or simply looking to experience the social "cross-pollination" effect of urban trails, we encourage you to use the trail resources and the trail itself to bring people together. We also might be able to help you promote an event on the trail. (Please get in touch with any inquiries.)
JOIN A PUBLIC GUIDED HIKE
Throughout the year, Walking City Trail builders (usually Miles Howard) offer public guided hikes along various segments of the trail. These hiking events can range from 2 to 8 miles in length. Some are built around activities while others are comprehensive trail section hikes. Free admission is always offered, but the hikes do fill up fast! The best way to stay abreast of upcoming group hikes is to sign up for the WCT newsletter. You'll find the signup form at the bottom of this page and all other pages on the trail website.

COMMISSION A GUIDED HIKE
In addition to leading public group hikes along the trail, Miles is also available for private commissioned group hikes along the Walking City Trail. If you're interested in a guided hike that focuses on specific scenic elements of Boston's green spaces (rocks and plants, history, you name it), a commissioned hike can be planned around these criteria. Pricing for private guided hikes is determined based on the size of the group (maximum 20 people), the desired length of the hike, and the budget of the commissioning party.

PLAN A NETWORKING HIKE
Networking isn't limited to conference centers and hotel banquet halls. Rustling pathways can be an ideal space to connect and get to know each other! If you work with a nonprofit, a foundation, a community organization, or any other entity with an interest in expanding public access to the outdoors, we would love to connect, go for a hike together on the WCT, and discuss how we might join forces down the road...
